About PocketStory

Note from our founder

Music has always been part of my life ever since I was a child. Growing up with impaired ability to communicate and interact, I was fortunate enough to receive funding from my local regional center, which gave me access to child development services such as music therapy. However, that isn't the case for every child. While many kids with autism regularly receive therapy, 25% of children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) don't use any services. Worse, more and more kids with ASD are not receiving the help they need. In fact, 1 in 10 kids with severe autism are not seeing medical specialists at all.

As a student who has most of the resources I need, I want to create the change. With my great passion in computer science, music, and design, I hope to launch a project that will help kids learn the skills they need, spread awareness by addressing the lack of services available, and overall end the stigma around ASD.

Larissa is currently a senior at Amador Valley High School and has helped with the digital graphics of the game. She is passionate about graphic design and anything related to the arts, including visual and performance. In her leisure time, you may catch her doodling or watching an insane amount of movies. She hopes that people enjoy the game as much as she did while creating it with Marina.

What is the Girl Scout Gold Award?

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the most prestigious award in the world for innovative, go-getting girls. Only 5% of Girl Scouts meet the rigorous peer review process to earn it. Through their Gold Award, Girl Scouts tackle a local/global issue and create a sustainable solution. Dating back to 1916, the award gives girls a platform to improve their communities—and the world. Before it was renamed in 1980, the Gold Award was previously called the Golden Eaglet of Merit, First Class, and Curved Bar.
